2 Of The Top 50 Worst Places To Live Are Right Here In CT

Two Connecticut communities were singled out as being two of the worst places to live, according to a report by 24/7 Wall St.

New Haven and Hartford are among the worst quality of life cities in the country, according to an report by 24/7 Wall St.

The publication took into account affordability, job market strength, infrastructure, commute times and other factors to come up with the rankings.

Hartford came in at 11th worst in the country and the worst in the broader New England region. The average household earns less than half of the Connecticut median income and the city is 17.3 percent more expensive for living costs. More than nine percent of workers are without a job.

The city’s population shrank 1.3 percent over the past five years as the national population grew 3.7 percent. The state agreed to pay of $550 million of the capitol city’s debt in an effort to get it back on the right track.

New Haven came in 39th worst noting it has a 6.6 percent unemployment rate that is higher than the state and national averages. It is also 16.5 percent more expensive than the nationwide average for living.

Coming in at number one on the rankings was Detroit where one out of every three residents lives below the poverty line. The median home value is $43,500 and its population shrunk from a high of 1.8 million residents in the 1950’s to 700,000 today.
