The foundation didn’t give further details on how Badger died.

Badger's twin 7-year-old daughters Sarah and Grace along with 9-year-old daughter Lily were killed in the fire. The children’s mother Madonna Badger and her then-boyfriend and home contractor Michael Borcina managed to escape.

Madonna Badger’s parents Lomer and Pauline Johnson were also killed in the blaze.

Matthew Badger had sued the City of Stamford along with contractors that worked on the home prior to the fire. The lawsuit alleged that the home was a "fire trap" due to work that was done on the home and inadequate inspections.

He recently settled with Best Electrical Contracting and New Canaan Design Partners for $1.2 million in a wrongful death lawsuit, according to the Stamford Advocate.

A $4.25 million settlement was also reached with Tiberias Construction, headed by Borcina. The City of Stamford was the last defendant left in the lawsuit.
