SUFFIELD, CT — A MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institute correctional officer is facing a charge of third-degree assault after turning himself in Wednesday in connection with the alleged attack of an inmate in the summer of 2023.

An arrest warrant details witness accounts that the officer, 33-year-old Christopher Carlson, repeatedly struck the inmate while responding to a "Code Blue" alert, which is when there is a physical altercation between inmates.

While officers attempted to bring the inmate involved in the altercation to the Restrictive Housing Unit, staff brought him to the ground and Carlson began punching him in the face, the inmate said.
