Vanessa Hudgens to Debut in 'Gigi' This Weekend at the Kennedy Center

Pre-Broadway engagement directed by Arlington's Eric Schaeffer.

Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Eric Schaeffer directs a world premiere production of Gigi, opening this weekend at the Kennedy Center.

Lerner and Loewe’s musical comedy is about love between a free-spirited young woman and a wealthy young playboy must overcome the conventions of turn-of-the-century Paris, according to a news release from the Kennedy Center.

Schaeffer is artistic director of Arlington’s Signature Theatre in Shirlington Village.

Hudgens, 26, is best known for her High School Musical role as Gabriella Montez, her past relationship with co-star Zac Efron and a string of films she has acted in since the mega-hit High School franchise.

This Tony and Academy Award-winning musical features songs such as “Thank Heaven for Little Girls,” “I Remember It Well” and “The Night They Invented Champagne.”

Following its run at the Kennedy Center, the production by Call the Midwife’s Heidi Thomas and Follies director Schaeffer will bring Gigi back to Broadway for the first time in 40 years.

The show debuts Friday at the Kennedy Center and runs through Feb. 12.

Tickets are $45 to $145 and are scarce, but certain dates show some availability.
