When's Our Next Chance Of Snow In DC?

The upcoming forecast has quite a surprise in store for us.

WASHINGTON, DC -- It wasn't quite a blockbuster winter storm in the D.C. area Tuesday, with some parts of the region getting a couple inches and others getting nothing. But there's a lot of winter to go, and forecasters have said they think that February could be an extremely snowy month for us.

So when's our next threat of snow? Well, not for a little while, and a major reason is the temperatures: in a surprising twist, they are going way, way up.

In the short term, there are some possible snow showers. The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang predicts we may see some snow showers Wednesday and maybe even some light snow accumulation on Friday, but added that "neither seems to have much more than coating potential."

There's plenty of moisture in the forecast, but the problem is all that polar air we were supposed to get in late January and February doesn't appear likely to arrive anytime soon (aside from the frigid temps right now). In fact, The Weather Channel predicts that temperatures are going to soar into the 60s by the middle of next week, and it could be pretty warm the following week as well.

So it's certainly not too late for us to have a blockbuster February in terms of snow, but right now the first half of the month is looking more spring-like than anything else.
