Random Act of Kindness Goes Viral

A Publix employee tying a man's shoes has sparked interest all over the Internet.

A simple Facebook photo of a store employee tying an elderly man’s shoes has taken the Internet by storm and put the picture-taker in the spotlight.

Ormond Beach’s Keith Kiel snapped the shot of a Publix employee named Gage Boucher in action during an Aug. 9 trip to the grocery store. When he got home, he shared the photo on Facebook and it’s taken off from there, Wesh.com reported.

The photo has been shared nearly 15,000 times and has garnered more than 186,000 likes. The story about the everyday kindness has even made national headlines with news stations in Atlanta and beyond all chiming in.

“I snapped this because it was so unusual to see this in a person,” Kiel told 11 Alive in Atlanta, explaining the reason why he pulled out his iPhone for the shot in the first place.

Kiel also thought the considerate employee deserved some praise.

“An old man could not reach down to tie his shoe so not only did Gage tie the one but he did the other as well; all with a smile,” Kiel wrote on his Facebook page. “I thought he should be recognized for his actions.”
