Publix To Build GreenWise Market In Channelside District

TAMPA, FL — The quickly growing Water Street development in Tampa's Channelside District will be the site of a new-concept GreenWise Market, announced Publix President Kevin Murphy Monday.

This will be the 11th announced GreenWise Market location.

“We look forward to sharing our new-concept GreenWise Market with our Tampa customers,” said Murphy. “Once they discover the unique products, atmosphere and prepared meals they can eat in the store or take with them as they enjoy the waterfront, they’ll see why we chose to go in a new direction with a brand they know and trust.”

The Channelside District will also be home to a traditional Publix Super Market slated to open in August. The GreenWise Market is expected to open in late 2021.

The current Publix GreenWise Market located on West Azeele Street in Tampa’s Hyde Park will be converted into a traditional Publix Super Market during the store’s planned remodel scheduled to begin next month.

GreenWise Market is a specialty, natural and organic store, featuring items for both the health-conscious and gourmet foodie. A prepared foods area will provide gourmet pizzas and burrito bowls and wraps made with organic meats and cheeses, as well as vegan options.

In addition, the store offers several made-in-house specialties, including organic smoked meats, organic sausages and gourmet popcorn.

Customers can pick up a glass of wine, local craft beer, locally roasted coffee, tea, kombucha or smoothie to enjoy in the seating area or carry with them while they shop.

Publix' first GreenWise Market opened in Tallahassee in October 2018, and a second store opened in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, in May. The Mountain Brook, Alabama, location opened June 27, and the Lakeland, Boca Raton and Lexington, South Carolina, stores are expected to open later this year.

Additionally, Publix announced that it plans to open a GreenWise Market at The Preserve shopping center under construction at State Road 54 and the Suncoast Parkway in Odessa.

Continuing to dominate the Tampa Bay grocery market, Publix is also in the process increasing its footprint in Bloomingdale Square on Bell Shoals Road and Bloomingdale Avenue in Brandon. The company plans to relocate its current store in the shopping center to a 48,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Walmart.

At the same time, Publix is building a new 48,848-square-foot store at the former site of the Winn-Dixie grocery store at 4315 W. Gandy Blvd. at South Manhattan Avenue.

Based in Lakeland, Publix operates more than 1,200 grocery stores throughout seven states in the Southeast.

This month, Publix was recognized by Fortune magazine as one of the Best Workplaces for Millennials for the fourth consecutive year. Publix ranked No. 34, up from No. 62 last year. Additionally, earlier this year, Publix was named one of Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For,ranking No. 12, up from No. 47 last year, and came in No. 2 on Fortune's list of the World’s Most-Admired Companies in the food and drug stores industry category.
