Braves Hall of Fame Pitcher Will Appear at Covering the Bases Fundraiser

Tom Glavine will throw out the first pitch of the season on Saturday at 10 a.m. The 24-hour fundraiser benefits Horizon Field.

A baseball legend will be in Acworth on Saturday morning to throw out a ceremonial first pitch and sign autographs for special needs athletes, The Marietta Daily Journal reports.

Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Glavine will make an appearance at the Covering the Bases fundraiser, which begins on Friday at 7 p.m. The 24-hour long fundraiser will feature movies, games, a cornhole tournament, and an all-star game at Horizon Field, a rubberized baseball field that allows special needs athletes to participate in sports. Proceeds from the fundraiser go to paying for new equipment and maintaining the field.

Glavine will be at Horizon Field starting at 10 a.m. Sunday. He will throw out the first pitch of the season and then sign autographs for the special needs athletes in attendance.

The Acworth Police Department is responsible for the fundraiser, which has generated around $130,000 since it began in 2008.
