Clarke's Lanoue Named National Superintendent of Year Finalist

Philip D. Lanoue was named the state superintendent of the year in early December.

Clarke County School District Superintendent Philip D. Lanoue was named a 2015 AASA (American Association of School Administrators) National Superintendent of the Year finalist today.

Lanoue – named Georgia Superintendent of the Year Dec. 5 – was one of four finalists from across the nation. The winner will be announced at the National Conference on Education, Feb. 26-28, 2015 in San Diego, Calif.

“Being recognized at a national level reflects the innovative work we are doing here in Clarke County, and I am so pleased to see us – collectively – recognized nationally,” said Lanoue. “I am humbled to represent Georgia at this level, and am very proud to share this recognition with our teachers, parents, administrators, students and community members.”

The other finalists are:

  • MaryEllen Elia, Hillsborough County Public Schools, Tampa, Fla.
  • Patrick Murphy, Arlington Public Schools, Arlington, Va.
  • Patrice Pujol, Ascension Public Schools, Donaldsonville, La.

“On behalf of everyone working to improve student success and provide quality public education for our nation’s children, it is an honor to congratulate the finalists for the 2015 AASA National Superintendent of the Year,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA. “These individuals are dedicated to ensuring that students in their school systems receive the best education possible. We look forward to honoring these outstanding superintendents as well as all of the State Superintendents of the Year when we celebrate our 150th anniversary at the National Conference on Education in February.”
