Final Star Wars 'Rogue One' Trailer: More Vader, More Heroes, More Death Star Plans

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" opens in theaters Dec. 16. Watch as big action and key plot points are revealed in the final trailer.

A final trailer released Thursday morning may offer the last new glimpses of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." Set to be released on Dec. 16, the film doubles back in the Star Wars continuity to offer a prequel to the original 1977 Star Wars film.

The trailer includes new clips of Darth Vader hunting for a growing band of rebel fighters, led by Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso. The new trailer also makes it clear that "Rogue One" will be an origin story, of sorts, for the Death Star.

The evil Empire uses the moon-sized weapon to destroy planets in the original "Star Wars" film, before it's destroyed by rebel fighters with secret schematics that show the Death Star's one vulnerability.

We learn in the latest "Rogue One" trailer that Erso's father is key to the development of the Death Star, explaining her role in recovering those schematics as she leads a scrappy fellowship of heroes, scoundrels and, of course, a plucky/chatty droid.

Tickets are not on sale yet, but you'll eventually find "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" tickets here.

"Rogue One" was originally billed as a test for films outside of the tentpole "Star Wars" movies, but the plot and Darth Vader's inclusion make it clear this movie won't stray too far from a storyline that fans are all too familiar with.

We'll also get popular vehicles from previous films (X-Wings, AT-ATs) and some new ones (Rogue One). We get environs new (a tropical beach) and old (a desert city).

The film comes a year before the sequel to last year's blockbuster "The Force Awakens," and Disney is already developing the next Star Wars film: an untitled Han Solo story set to drop in 2018.

"Rogue One" is directed by Gareth Edwards ("Godzilla") and written by Chris Weitz ("Cinderella") and Tony Gilroy (of the Bourne franchise).

A new movie poster was also revealed Thursday, featuring Jyn Erso, flanked by the Death Star and Darth Vader.
