Metro Atlanta Companies Will Hire More Workers in Fourth Quarter

More than one in five Atlanta-area companies surveyed said that they plan to add to their workforce in the next several months.

Businesses in the metro Atlanta area expect to continue hiring new employees as the fourth quarter of 2014 approaches, reports the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.

According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, 22 percent of metro Atlanta companies Manpower interviewed said they planned to hire more employees between October and December. During the same time period, only three percent of surveyed companies said they planned to reduce their workforce. 71 percent of companies plan to keep their employment level the same for the remainder of the year.

These Atlanta-specific numbers compare favorably to the south’s net employment outlook, Manpower reports. Across the region, only 20 percent of companies planned to expand their workforce in the fourth quarter, while six percent told Manpower that they were going to lay off workers.

“[T]he expected Quarter 4 2014 hiring pace is relatively stable from Quarter 3 2014 and indicates a slight increase over Quarter 4 2013,” Manpower said about the south region in their Employment Outlook Survey.

Manufacturing and IT companies located in the south plan to make a moderate splash on the hiring front, while government, transportation, and education and health services companies anticipated a slowing of the hiring pace for the remainder of the year.
