Two former University of Georgia students who went into business together to make whiskey have decided to relocate their distillery to the Buckhead area, Simply Buckhead reports.

Charlie Thompson and Jim Chasteen created American Spirit Whiskey, which now has its products in over 500 restaurants and liquor stores in Georgia. American Spirit Whiskey is unlike similar brands in that it is only briefly aged in an oak barrel, then subjected to ultrasonic rays to accelerate the aging process.

Thompson and Chasteen are moving their distillery operation to Buckhead, occupying a large part of the former Mason Murer Fine Arts building located at 199 Armour Dr. Apart from distilling their normal product, the partners plan on adding a Georgia-flavor with locally grown produce such as peaches and apples into new whiskey and brandy offerings.

Once the distillery opens next year, ”American Spirit Works” will offer visitors tours, tastings, and a demonstration of how the locally-grown produce goes into the locally-distilled spirits.
