Canton Officer Earns Crime Prevention Through Design Certification

Pacer Cordry recently completed the Crime Prevention through Environmental Design course earlier this month in South Carolina.

An officer with the Canton Police Department has successfully completed the Crime Prevention through Environmental Design, or CPTED, course.

Pacer Cordry has also been awarded the CPTED Professional Designation by completing the course, which is offered through the National Institute of Crime Prevention.

The course, held at the Hubbell Lighting’s corporate headquarters in Greenville, South Carolina, was attended by representatives from a variety of law enforcement agencies, city planners, city managers, architects and security consultants.

The premise behind CPTED is β€œthe proper design and use of the human environment can create a reduction in the incidence and fear of crime and an increase in the quality of life.”

Cordry is the first member of the Canton Police Department to successfully complete the course and earn this designation.

To earn the designation, a participant must successfully complete 64 hours of instruction offered through the NICP within two consecutive years.

Course curriculum includes forty hours of training in basic CPTED and twenty-four hours of training in advanced CPTED.
