Children Can Help Design Canton's Next Park

The city is opening a contest to all youth to design what features they'd like to see in Heritage Park.

The city of Canton wants to hear from its youngest residents on what new features they’d would like to see in Heritage Park.

Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles alike are asked to encourage the kids in their care to draw up their park design and they could be selected to have their idea implemented into the Heritage Park Master Plan.

Once they have completed their proposal, they can mail their ideas to City Hall (151 Elizabeth Street, Canton Ga. 30114) or drop it off Monday thru Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Make sure their name and age are on their design.

“Our youth represents the future of our city, (so) it is vital that we create a place for them and involve them in the planning process,” the city said in its press release. “You never know your child could be the next city planner. Imagine a playground built to suit the needs of all children, at any age, with a play adventure that brings children together and helps them learn about civic involvement, build self-confidence, make friends and play as equals.”

City staff, along with the mayor and City Council, will choose a winner on June 3. The deadline to submit a design is June 1.
