Tennis Match Helps Bartow Children Have a Merrier Christmas

A round robin tennis tournament has been scheduled for Friday to raise money for Bartow County's Shop with a Hero program.

Cartersville and Bartow County residents who enjoy tennis will be able to partake in the sport to help less fortunate children.

The Cartersville Police Department will host a round robin tennis tournament on Friday, Nov. 21 at the Dellinger Park Tennis Center.

The center is located at 100 Pine Grove Road in Cartersville. Entrance to the event is $10 and a nonperishable food item that will be donated to the Flowering Branch Children’s Shelter.

All proceeds will benefit the Bartow County’s 2014 Shop with a Hero initiative, which gives less fortunate children the chance to shop for Christmas presents with an officer or firefighter. Children are chosen by elementary school staff in either the Bartow County School System or Cartersville City School System.

A letter then goes to the parents or guardians of each child inviting them to the event. The children and their parents or guardians meet at the Clarence Brown Conference Center for breakfast and are transported to Walmart.

Each child is paired with a local hero and given $150, $100 of which must be spent on clothing for that child. Each child can use the remaining $50 to purchase what they wish for themselves or others family members.
