Cumming Schools Beat State, National SAT Scores

South Forsyth High School had the highest combined scores in the school district and the 12th highest combined scores in the state.

Cumming-area high schools once again surpassed the state and national average SAT scores during the most recent round of testing, Forsyth County Schools announced Tuesday.

Forsyth County Schools’ average SAT score was 1568, topping the average Georgia mark of 1426 and the national average of 1471. Forsyth County Schools have beaten the state averages six years running, and topped the national average twice in a row. These scores are also the highest marks in any of the state’s 15 largest school districts.

1,946 Forsyth County high school students took the SAT, said Superintendent Jeff Bearden in a statement.

South Forsyth High School returned an impressive 1647 on the SAT, earning the 12th-highest score in the state. Lambert, West Forsyth, and North Forsyth followed with scores of 1594, 1536, and 1520 respectively.

Lambert had 539 students take the SAT, the highest number in the county. 435 South Forsyth students took the exam, joined by 389 West Forsyth and 362 North Forsyth students.

Central Forsyth High School earned an average score of 1486 with 207 students tested, bringing up the rear in the county but still ahead of the state and national averages.

“I am proud of the continued work of our students and staff,” stated Bearden. “Though we had slight decreases in the school and district scores, this is reflective of what has occurred across the state this year.

Forsyth County Schools’ average SAT score was 1580 in 2013, improving on 2012’s mark of 1568.
