Decatur Collecting Food, Winter Coats for Homeless Families

Some Decatur city buildings are collecting donated goods through Dec. 19 to help the Decatur Cooperative Ministries.

The city of Decatur has set up collection sites at fire stations, City Hall and the recreation center.

The City of Decatur and DeKalb County have 2,100 homeless school age children and their families who are in need this winter, say organizers. They are asking residents to donate non-expired food items or a winter coat.

The City of Decatur Fire Department will collect items until Dec. 19. All items will go to Decatur Cooperative Ministries, which helps families who face homelessness settle into safe, stable homes.

The ministries offers comprehensive services helping to prevent, endure, and overcome homelessness. Drop off items at either of the City of Decatur Fire Stations at 230 E. Trinity Place or 356 West Hill St., the Decatur Recreation Center at 231 Sycamore St., or Decatur City Hall at 509 N. McDonough St.
