Decatur International School Embraces its Diversity on UN Day

The International Charter School celebrated United Nations Day with guest speakers and a parade of nations.

Students from the International Community School in Decatur spent last Nov. 7 celebrating their native cultures and that of their multi-ethnic classmates in a belated celebration of United Nations Day.

The school hosted guest speakers and held student performances while students dressed in in costumes authentic to their native countries and led a parade that processed along the neighborhood roads of Medlock.

“Today’s headlines are filled with conflicts worldwide, often stemming from prejudice and cultural clashes,” said school Principal Edgar Miranda in a press release. “[Our school] illustrates how a group of children from remarkably different backgrounds can learn and play harmoniously together while fostering diversity. United Nations Day celebrates this.”
