Decatur NonProfit Selects Rev. McGregor Mosley as Executive Director

In her new position, Rev. McGregor Mosley will lead environmentalism initiatives with Georgia Interfaith Power & Light.

Decatur’s faith-based environmental nonprofit Georgia Interfaith Power & Light recently named Rev. Kate McGregor Mosley as its official executive director, a change made effective on the first of the new year.

A graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary and an ordained Presbyterian minister, McGregor Mosley has long supported energy and environmental conservationism and has campaigned for faith-based eco-activism.

Serving as the interim executive director since August, McGregor Mosley helped Georgia Interfaith Power & Light expand its collaborations with congregations, environmental organizations, businesses, and other nonprofit organizations statewide.

“[Kate] has been valuable as a staff member and invaluable as our interim executive director,” the nonprofit’s board director and professor of Christian Ethics at Columbia Theological Seminary, Dr. Mark Douglas said. “The board looks forward to working with her as [Georgia Interfaith Power & Light] helps faith communities become models of sustainability and stewardship in Georgia and beyond.”

Founded in 2003 and merged with Earth Covenant Ministry of the Presbyterian Church in 2011, Georgia Interfaith Power & Light offers free or low-cost energy efficiency audits to Georgia schools and religious organizations, ultimately reducing their utility costs. Its free, green certification program has already resulted in energy audits for more than 211 facilities.

“We have some important work ahead of us,” said McGregor Mosley in a release. “The environmental picture could look very grim but people of faith are in the business of hope. I look forward to working together with [the organization’s] board of directors and our community partners to shape hopeful action in response to the environmental challenges we face.”

Beyond energy efficiency, the programs of Georgia Interfaith Power & Light stress water conservation and waste reduction through recycling.
