DeKalb County Animal Shelter Waives Adoption Fees

Throughout November, the organization will cover the cost to spay, neuter, vaccinate, and microchip any dog, puppy, cat, or kitten adopted.

As a part of the “Give Our Shelter Pets a Reason to be Thankful” promotion, DeKalb County Animal Services lets November adopters bring home a dog or cat without the traditional adoption and medical fees.

The initial costs of pet adoption can price-out families that would otherwise provide pets with loving homes. By waiving the adoption fees as well as some preliminary expenses facing pet owners, the Decatur shelter aims to help more shelter animals find homes.

“All pets deserve a warm bed, a full belly and someone to love them, and in return they bring many positive benefits to a home,” shelter director Susan Feingold said in a press release. “Our fee-waived promotions tend to bring more people into the shelter, so we’re counting on continued community support to help more of our animals find forever homes.”

While the shelter will still apply its screening test for those who plan to adopt, the shelter pets adopted through this promotion will come neutered or spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.
