Wednesday evening, starting at 6 p.m., volunteers will arrive at the DeKalb County Jail to begin preparing the meal. Just over 1,000 turkeys, two pallets of dressing and 500 pounds of rice and gravy will be cooked, along with all of the fixings needed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, the organization said in a news release.

The jail has the largest commercial kitchen in the Atlanta area and has served as a community partner with the organization for the past 10 years. The dinner will begin arriving at 7 a.m. Thursday.
