'Top Chef' Finalist to Open Restaurant in Decatur

Chef Kevin Gillespie's new restaurant, Revival, will combine Southern family-style meals with farm-raised and artisan ingredients.

Decatur foodies will have a new restaurant to enjoy this summer, as Chef Kevin Gillespie has announced his new, artisanal Southern-comfort food eatery will open its doors in June.

“I have fallen back in love with the traditional dishes I grew up eating, and those that represent the beautiful culinary traditions of the Deep South,” Gillespie said in a press release.

The restaurant will serve a variety of farm-raised meats and fresh, seasonal vegetables to patrons in its dining room, front garden and spacious backyard.

While lunch is a la carte, dinner will remind customers of the family-style, Southern meals served by loved ones. “Revival will be like going to your grandma’s on Sunday—except every day,” Gillespie explained. “We hope to showcase the dishes with a passion and precision that is largely unavailable currently.”

Set to open in early June, Revival will set up shop at 129 Church St. in Decatur.

Gillespie, a Georgia-native and season-six “Top Chef” finalist, opened his first restaurant, Gunshow, in 2013, which was honored with the seventh spot on Esquire’s “Best New Restaurants of 2014.”

He has also published a homestyle cookbook entitled Fire in My Belly: Real Cooking -- which includes his recipe for bacon jam -- and his second cookbook, Pure Pork Awesomeness: Totally Cookable Recipes from Around the World, is set to be released in March 2015.
