Asia Durr Repeats as Gatorade Georgia Player of Year

The University of Louisville signee from Douglasville is a star point guard at St. Pius X.

High school basketball star Asia Durr has been named the Gatorade Georgia Girls Player of the Year for 2015. It is the second straight year, Durr has won the award, Gatorade said in a news release.

Durr, from Douglasville, is a 5-foot-10 point guard at St. Pius X High School in Atlanta. She has signed to play at the University of Louisville.

Durr averaged 30 points, 6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for St. Pius (27-4).

As a starter during the USA Basketball Women’s U17 National Team’s unbeaten gold-medal run at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship this past summer, Durr averaged 13.4 points, 3.4 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 23 minutes per contest. A McDonald’s All-American Game, Jordan Brand Classic and WBCA High School All-America Team selection, she led Saint Pius X to back-to-back Class AAA state championships as a sophomore and junior.

Durr has maintained a B average in the classroom. In addition to writing letters to U.S. troops as part of the Works of Mercy Service Program, she has volunteered locally at a food pantry, at Destiny World Church’s homeless ministry, on behalf of the Meals on Wheels Association of America and as part of the Shoes for Haiti campaign.

“She displayed everything you would look for in a great player,” Harlen Graham, head coach of rival Grady High, said in the news release. “She passes, shoots and makes everyone around her better. She has the total package. She’s the best player I have ever seen in girls’ basketball.”
