New Assistant DA Was Inspired by Atticus Finch

Samantha Newman will be prosecuting cases in the Superior Court of Judge Beau McClain.

Douglas County District Attorney Brian Fortner announced the appointment of Samantha Newman as Assistant District Attorney. Newman will be prosecuting cases in the Superior Court of Judge Beau McClain.

Newman earned her Bachelor of Arts (Political Science, cum laude) and Juris Doctor from the University of Florida, and has worked in the legal field since her undergraduate graduation. Previous experience includes the 8th Judicial Circuit of Florida; the Innocence Project of Florida; and most recently with the DeKalb County, Georgia, Solicitor’s Office.

She decided long ago to become an attorney, having been inspired by Atticus Finch in “To Kill A Mockingbird”. Newman said that it made her want to know “what makes people tick”, and that she has learned through her education and experience that she really wanted to be a prosecutor.
