Dunwoody Officer, Wife Deliver Baby in Car

While police officers are trained to deliver babies in an emergency, that wasn’t what Dunwoody Officer Jeremy Massengill had planned.

But his baby girl had different plans.

Massengill was driving his wife, Jennifer, to the hospital Sunday afternoon when they realized that the labor was moving along and they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time.

According to the Dunwoody Police Department’s Facebook page, Massengill pulled into the closest fire station and “pounded frantically” on the door for help. Paramedics returned to the car just as Jennifer delivered Kayleigh Grace Massengill.

The infant was 17 1/2 inches long and weighed 5 pounds 11 ounces at birth.

“While we are trained to handle these types of calls, Officer Massengill can attest that it is a different story when it is your own family,” the department said. “Mother and daughter are healthy and happy. He would like to give a shout out to the outstanding work of the Cobb County Fire Department.”
