Dunwoody Police Share Halloween Safety Tips

Parents should put their child's name and number inside costumes, while kids need to stay with friends or parents. Read more tips below.

As parents and kids prepare for trick-or-treating and Halloween parties, the Dunwoody Police Department has some safety tips for families.

  • Make sure costumes fit and are light or bright colored
  • Choose face paint or make-up over mask
  • Put child’s name/number inside costume
  • Walk, don’t run
  • Watch for cars backing out of driveways
  • Walk on sidewalks and paths
  • Check candy for tampering
  • Do not accept homemade treats unless you know they are absolutely safe
  • Turn on exterior lights to welcome trick-or-treaters
  • Do not light candles around walkways
  • Keep walkways clear and well lit
  • Drivers: slow down and be alert in and around neighborhoods.
  • Stay with friends or parents
  • Only approach houses with lights on
  • Carry a cell phone and dial 911 if you see anything suspicious
