Random Act of Kindness: Driver Helps Man in Wheelchair

Police were called to check on a man who was having trouble getting into a vehicle, but a motorist had already stopped to help.

A Dunwoody Police officer shared a random act of kindness he saw Sunday as a driver stopped to help an elderly person on the street.

The officer posted on the department’s Facebook page that he was sent to check on what was reported as a homeless man in a wheelchair out in the rain.

“As I approached the scene I saw a white vehicle stopped with its flashers on. I saw the person I was sent to check on working slowly to get into the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle came up to me and said that the gentleman needed some help, so I decided to give him a hand.

“As a law enforcement officer for nearly 15 years, I could not recall anyone ever stopping to help out a fellow human being or displaying such a random act of kindness that I witnessed today,” the officer wrote.

Residents posted their own shout-outs to the Good Samaritan and to police for sharing the story.

Bobbi Matthews wrote: “Thank you for sharing! Thank the good Samaritan, too! Thanksgiving!!”

Added Tina Muirhead-Walden: “Let’s make that the standard (in) Dunwoody.”

And the last word from Michelle Majure: “This already is the standard in Dunwoody. Just because someone witnesses it today or an officer got called and helped doesn’t mean people aren’t helping here every day. I don’t see many people walking around the area in need, and that’s because they are quickly helped. Thanks to those who stop and help, no matter what community you live in.”
