Reader Photos from Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Ground-Breaking

The new house will be built on the site of the current facility.

Patch reader Megan Arnold shared photos with us from the ground-breaking ceremony at the new, 31-bedroom Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities Peachtree Dunwoody house Tuesday morning.

Ronald McDonald House’s mission is to be a “home-away-from home” for families who travel long distances in order for their children, facing serious medical crisis, to get treatment. The houses allow families to stay together during the healing and treatment process.

The current Peachtree Dunwoody house has been forced to turn away 650 families in the past three years due to capacity restraints, according to the website. Families stay an average of 12 nights at the House and average costs of motel rooms are about $100.

The new house, slated to open in 2016, will be in the same location as the existing Peachtree Dunwoody house, 5420 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, Sandy Springs. A sneak peak of the new house is available online.
