Firefighters, Officers Help Local Charities in 'Guns & Hoses' Race

The 9th annual 5K run/walk and fun run will take place Feb. 28 at Hobgood Park.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office and Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services will once team up for Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency’s ninth annual Guns & Hoses 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run.

The race will take place Saturday, Feb. 28 at Hobgood Park in Towne Lake. The fun run will start at 7:30 a.m. while the 5K gets underway at 8 a.m.

Both public safety agencies will raise money to help charities of their choice. Cherokee County fire will raise money for the Goshen Valley Boys Ranch while the sheriff’s office’s efforts will benefit the Cherokee Sheriff’s Foundation.

The boys ranch is a nonprofit organization that provides a structured home for boys and young men in the state’s foster care system. The foundation donates funds for charities and less fortunate residents throughout the county.

Prospective runners and walkers who want to participate will pick the team they want to represent, and a portion of the registration fee will be donated to those aforementioned charties.
