Johns Creek Waives Non-Resident Fees For Youth Girls' Softball

Both Johns Creek and Alpharetta have agreed to waive fees for non-residents during the spring and fall 2015 seasons.

In an effort to establish a “mutually beneficial relationship” when it comes to providing parks and recreation services, the cities of Johns Creek and Alpharetta have agreed to waive non-resident fees for youth girls’ softball.

The Johns Creek City Council last week approved a memorandum of understanding with Alpharetta to waive the fees for the program during the spring and fall 2015 seasons.

Both cities have a policy that charges an additional 50 to 75 percent fee for non-residents to participate in their respective recreation programs.

Additionally, both cities have received complaints about the fee, particularly from residents who love close to a park not located in their city boundaries, Johns Creek staff noted in its agenda report.

Waiving the fee could be a step in both cities’ exploration of possible opportunities where they can work together to ”assist in mutually serving each other’s residents,” the city noted.

In the spring and fall 2014, Johns Creek had 123 participants in youth girls softball. Out of that, 11 were Alpharetta residents. During the same timeframe in the same program, Alpharetta had 638 participants, 29 of which were Johns Creek residents.

It’s anticipated the waiver will result in the city not collecting roughly $750 in annual non-resident fees for the girls youth softball program, city staff estimates.
