Sheila attended the College’s free Career Training Expo on Jan. 8 with her daughter, 16-year-old Kassidy, who is interested in the Culinary Apprenticeship Certificate program. The mother and daughter heard about the program through a friend who’s already signed up to take the nine-month Culinary course this fall. They decided to attend the Expo to find out more.

“We thought the presentation about the program was amazing,” Sheila said. “It will give students a chance for apprenticeships in numerous restaurants as well as catering various events. Great exposure to the food industry. The opportunities are endless.”

A passion for cooking runs in the family. Sheila works for Sun in My Belly, a cafe and catering company based in Atlanta. Kassidy, a sophomore, is currently completing a culinary program at Marietta High School.

When she arrived at KSU Center to pick up her prize, Sheila met the dean, Barbara Calhoun, who congratulated her on winning. Like all Expo attendees, Sheila also received a discount coupon she can apply toward any class at the College. Other Expo perks include social media giveaways, a free career coach-led class, refreshments and information on financial aid.

An open-house event held three times each year, the Career Training Expo draws hundreds of people who are interested in programs ranging from Web Design and Android App Development to Healthcare, Paralegal and Project Management. The next Expo is set for April 2. To register or learn more, visit ksuexpo.com or call 470-578-6765.
