'Badge' of Kindness: Mom of Autistic Daughter Says Thanks

When a deputy stopped by a Loganville area school, he gave a special sticker to a little girl.

Parents of special needs children sometimes get “looks” in public, which makes acts of kindness from strangers so special.

A deputy visiting McConnell Middle School left a big impression on a 9-year-old girl with autism who was with her mom in the office. The unnamed officer gave the girl a sticker, her ”badge,” as she told her mom.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office shared the heartfelt note on its Facebook page.

“She made sure to tell everyone in the orthodontist office that you made her your deputy. That they can feel safe because she was there to help,” the mother wrote.

“This may not sound that great to some people,” she continued, “But this child who has gone on and on about this ‘badge’ all afternoon, asking to wear the same shirt to school tomorrow so she can show her class, never does this with other things.”
