Smyrna Churchgoers Receive Baptism by Fire(men)

When Smyrna First Baptist Church's baptistery was empty on Sunday, the Smyrna Fire Department came to the rescue.

The Smyrna Fire Department is accustomed to using its fire hoses to battle blazes and save lives, but those hoses were recently put to work to save souls.

FOX 5 Atlanta reports that when Smyrna FIrst Baptist Church’s baptistery failed to fill itself overnight due to a timing issue, the congregation was worried that 40 people who had expected to be baptized would have to wait another week for their chance. Normally, a baptistery takes about six hours to fill and heat, precious time the church did not have.

The church called the fire department, who dispatched three firefighters and a truck to the house of worship. The crew ran a hose from their fire truck through the sanctuary and began pumping water into the baptistery. By the time the baptisms were scheduled to commence, the baptistery was ready for use.
