Kroger Baby: Mother Gives Birth in Supermarket

The Gwinnett County couple was on the way to the hospital when they had to stop at a Kroger location on Peachtree Parkway.

There apparently was a baby delivery aisle last week at a metro-Atlanta Kroger supermarket.

When an expectant Gwinnett County mother and her husband knew they weren’t going to make it to the hospital in rush-hour traffic, they chose a Kroger store instead, according to news reports.

Deborah Ross gave birth to Baby Cora near the shopping carts on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 15, CBS46 and WSB-TV reported. Within minutes, husband Andrew was holding the Lawrenceville couple’s third child.

The couple was on the way to a north Fulton County hospital when Deborah’s water broke, WSB reported. Kroger would have to do.

They rushed in the front doors and intended to get to the restrooms in the back of the store, but the baby had other things in mind.

She was already coming out,” Deborah told WSB, saying there was no time to sit or lie down.

“Within about 90 seconds to 2 minutes, she was born,” Andrew told CBS46.

Kroger employees brought blankets to comfort the mother and child, and an EMS crew quickly arrived, clamped the umbilical cord and took mother and daughter to the hospital.

“I knew everyone was thinking that’s the lady that just had her baby in a grocery store,” Deborah told WSB.

Baby Cora weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces.
