Unwashed Veggies, Bare Hands On Food: Gwinnett Restaurant Fails Inspection

Kitchen workers were handling food with their bare hands and unwashed vegetables were being stored above ready to eat food, inspectors said.

NORCROSS, GA — Kitchen workers were handling food with their bare hands and unwashed vegetables were being stored above ready-to-eat food at a Gwinnett County Indian restaurant that failed its health inspection this week.

Indian Grill Restaurant, at 2071 Beaver Ruin Rd. in Norcross, scored a 60/U on the inspection Wednesday.

According to the inspection report, one employee was seen handling bread with bare hands while cutting it and another stopped cutting onions, went to empty a sink drain, then started cutting onions again without washing hands.

Unwashed vegetables were being stored above ready-to-eat food in the cooler, where inspectors also found an opened can of tomato paste and other uncovered food being stored. A cellphone and car keys were laying on top of a prep table that was being used and a cigarette lighter was in a prep area near plates and over an area where there is sometimes prepared food.

The restaurant's back door was propped open, there was a spray bottle with no label saying what was inside and the restaurant did not have the required employee health agreements on file.

The restaurant had scored a perfect 100/A on its most recent inspection in July and an 86/B on an inspection in May.

Inspectors will return to the restaurant for another look in the next 10 days. If problems that were cited during Wednesday's inspection have not been addressed, they could shut the restaurant down until they are fixed.
