Roswell Hands Out Grant Funding To Help Less Fortunate Residents

The city recently announced the recipients of its Community Development Block Grant Funding program.

The city of Roswell recently announced recipients of its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding program.

The CDBG program benefits low- and moderate-income residents by providing decent housing, suitable living environments and expanding economic opportunities.

CDBG grant monies — which are awarded to Roswell by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) — can be used to support activities such housing rehabilitation, public services, economic development and infrastructure projects.

Roswell proposed its list of recipients in its 2015 Annual CDBG Action Plan, which was made available for public review and comment in fall 2014.

The $431,921 in CDBG funds awarded to the city of Roswell will be distributed to the following:

  • Child Development Association (CDA): $49,714 for engineering plans for Bush St./Grove Way intersection and parking lot safety improvements at the Child Development Center.
  • Drake House: $12,354 for parking lot repairs at the Drake House campus.
  • Enable of Georgia: $5,500 to provide bus service to and from appointments/events for clients with developmental disabilities.
  • Families First: $2,929 for crisis counselling and other mental health services for low-income residents.
  • Habitat for Humanity of North Central GA: $7,214 for exterior housing repairs and weatherization improvements in area neighborhoods.
  • HomeStretch/Housing Initiative of North Fulton: $31,271 for general repairs to existing housing units and potential acquisition of new units.
  • Housing Authority of the city of Roswell: $22,008 for the rehabilitation of existing housing units.
  • North Fulton Community Charities: $21,429 for the construction of a compartmentalized storage area at Elkins Rd. facility.
  • Senior Services North Fulton: $6,571 for transportation services for seniors to and from medical appointments.
  • YMCA Alpharetta: $4,214 for afterschool program scholarships at Waller Park for children from Roswell elementary schools.
  • Roswell Administration and Planning: $86,384 for environmental reviews, professional services, advertising, and partial funding of grants specialist position to oversee the CDBG program.
  • Roswell Public Works: $104,206 for Grove Way waterline repair and replacement to benefit Grove Way community.
  • Roswell Recreation & Parks: $78,127 for trail repairs and picnic pavilion at Waller Park Extension to benefit Grove Way community.
