The Fulton County Schools Foundation recently approved two Seed Fund grants for Riverwood International Charter School.

These two grants include a full-time teacher position for AVID for the 2015-16 school year and money to purchase System 44. Designed to assist students with very poor reading skills, System 44 is a welcome complement to the Read 180 program already in place at the Sandy Springs school

Riverwood Principal Dr. Robert Shaw credits the work of the school’s Governance Council for applying for and securing these grants.

This year’s grants are not the first ones the Seed Fund has awarded Riverwood. Last year, Riverwood designed a customized Credit Recovery Program for students who were just barely failing a class. For those students within a few points of making a passing grade and needing reinforcement of basic skill before advancing, the Seed Fund award provided the teachers for these intensive recovery sessions.

The Seed Fund was established in 2013 using $7.8 million appropriated by the Georgia General Assembly.

The Seed Fund is managed by the Fulton Education Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization founded in 1986 to strengthen the relationship between Fulton County’s schools and the extended community.
