Sandy Springs Employee Named Paramedic/EMT of the Year

Sandy Springs Fire Rescue Paramedic Gina Ramey was recently named Paramedic/EMT of the Year by the Department of Georgia Veterans of Foreign Wars. Ramey has been a member of the Sandy Springs Fire Rescue Department since 2011.

“Gina’s skill and quick thinking in all aspects of fire and EMS make her an invaluable part of Sandy Springs Fire Rescue,” said Sandy Springs Fire Chief Keith Sanders. “It is always a joy to see those who put forth hard work and effort obtain recognition for those efforts.”

Ramey began her emergency medical career in 1992 at Rabun County Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant. In 1994 she obtained her practical nursing diploma and began working in the emergency room.

In 1996 she became an EMT and later advanced to paramedic in 2003. In 2004 she began working with Banks County Fire and EMS until 2011 when she was hired in Sandy Springs.

In Sandy Springs, Ramey is an active member of the Tactical Emergency Medical Support Team (TEMS) for North Metro SWAT. She assists the Office of Medical Affairs with field training of new hires and shift personnel. In September 2014, Ramey obtained her National Professional Qualification for Apparatus Operation, considered in the industry as an outstanding accomplishment.

Ramey was awarded the 2006 Joseph E. Simon Pediatric Award of Excellence from the state of Georgia for her treatment of a 14-year old who suffered a head injury during a football game.

The Department of Georgia Veterans of Foreign Wars presents its awards annually, recognizing achievements of public safety personnel throughout the state.
