A celebrated children’s author and illustrator came to a Smyrna elementary school to talk to students about how he became interested in children’s books and ways that art can inspire creativity.

James Ransome, responsible for the artwork for books such as “Satchel Paige” and “Major Taylor: Champion Cyclist,” dropped by King Springs Elementary School to talk with third through fifth grade students about his love of the creative process, the Cobb County Schol District said.

Ransome gave students a virtual tour of his studio during his presentation, and then invited students to come draw numbers on an easel, at which point the artists used his creativity to draw wizards, waiters, and more out of the numerals.

The illustrator told the school district that his favorite part of coming to schools is hearing the reaction from students when they realize he has drawn or written some of their favorite books.
