Missing Tiles From Snellville Memorial To Be Replaced By Veterans Day

Replicas of the 9 missing tiles will be installed, along with about 100 new ones.

Replicas of the nine tiles that went missing before the unveiling of the city’s Veterans Memorial in May will be placed on the wall before Veterans Day.

Mayor Pro Tem Tom Witts said the replacement tiles will be joined by about 100 new ones people have bought to honor loved ones who have served in war.

Installation of the tiles and a cleaning of the Memorial will take place the week of Oct. 13 in preparation for the yet-to-be-finalized Veterans Day events.

“The delay initially with the (tiles) was the overwhelming requests we had for more since the dedication,” Witts said. “All the bricks will be in place by Veterans Day.”

Witts said there will a special presentation for those who had the tiles that went missing before the official opening of the Memorial on Memorial Day.
