County To Unveil Concept Plans for Cherokee Veterans Park

Residents can discuss and review the plans at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at Macedonia Elementary School.

Cherokee County parks and recreation representatives on Tuesday will reveal concept plans for a new park.

The plans will be revealed Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Macedonia Elementary School east of Canton.

The park, which was officially named Cherokee Veterans Park last week by the Cherokee County Commission, will be built using proceeds from the $90 million parks bond, which was approved by voters in 2008.

It will be situated near the intersection of Highway 20 and Water Tank Road.

About 75 people attended the first meeting, which was held in mid-November, said Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency Director Bryan Reynolds. After a brief presentation, Reynolds said residents had a chance to vote on amenities they’d like to see in the park, such as baseball/softball fields, multipurpose fields, playground, pavilions, tennis or pickleball courts, a skate park or a future recreation center.

“They could also ask questions of staff one-on-one or submit comments on a comment card,” he previouisly told Patch. “There were a lot of positive comments. The community is clearly looking forward to the new park.”
