ILLINOIS — Illinois expects to receive more than 234,000 more doses of the coronavirus vaccine from both Pfizer and Moderna this week, while more than 63,000 people have already been vaccinated across the state.

Both vaccines will be shipped directly to hospitals and not to the Illinois Strategic National Stockpile.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker's office said those 63,000 doses do not include those vaccinated in the City of Chicago.

The state is expecting to get 60,450 more doses of the Pfizer vaccine between Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • From this allocation the federal government will begin taking doses for the CVS/Walgreens partnership that will be used for the state’s long-term care facilities.
  • This federal program is expected to start vaccinating residents next week.
  • That leaves about 20,000 doses that will be direct shipped to providers (hospitals with ultra-cold storage) for healthcare workers this week.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, the state expects 174,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine to arrive.

"It's going to take multiple weeks of distribution to get our health-care workers their first of two doses they require while also getting to our long-term care residents," Pritzker said earlier this month. There are 654,598 front-line health-care workers and 109,227 residents in long-term care facilities in Illinois.
