BATAVIA, IL — Officials at Batavia Public School District 101 recently filed a police report after someone took over an online class and made threats and used racial slurs, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

Someone not associated with the district interrupted a remote learning session Nov. 5 for a class of Rotolo Middle School students, the report states. The person, who sounded like they were using a robotic filter on their voice, used racial slurs and threatened to kill someone, according to the report.

Holly Deitchman, the district’s spokesperson, said she believes the teacher let the caller into the virtual classroom without realizing they should not have been, the report states. Deitchman said officials are working with Google to create better safeguards and make it harder for people to get into the district’s virtual classrooms.
