WILLOWBROOK, IL – Investigators have interviewed hundreds of people in connection with the investigation into the June 18 mass shooting in unincorporated Willowbrook, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

"(W)e understand and empathize with the media and public in their desire for more information, but to do so at this time will compromise our ability to bring these offenders to justice," the agency said in a news release. "This is the only reason certain information is being withheld from the public."

Investigators have reviewed hundreds of hours of video footage pulled from local businesses, witness cellphones and social media, according to the release. More than 100 pieces of evidence were collected at the shooting site. It is at the strip mall at the southwestern corner of Route 83 and Honeysuckle Rose Lane, next to the Hinsdale Lake Terrace Apartments.

In some cases, interviews of people were conducted thousands of miles away from Illinois, the sheriff's office said.

One person, Reginald Meadows, 31, of Willowbrook, died in the attack, which occurred early in the morning. Another 22 were reported injured. All of them are in stable condition and are speaking with investigators, the office said.

The sheriff's office said it believes some people may have been injured but did not seek medical attention or speak with police that night. Investigators are trying to find those people.

"We don't know if any of the victims were specifically targeted during this attack, which is why we will not be disclosing any information that may identify them or expose them to further harm," the office said.

The news release said more than 100 investigators from the sheriff's office and a multi-agency task force known as MERIT have been assigned to the investigation.

The shooting occurred at a Juneteenth celebration at the strip mall. It is across Route 83 from the Burr Ridge village limit.

Authorities have said they are unsure how many shooters opened fire on the crowd, estimated by some to be around 300 people earlier in the night.
