CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — Not even pumpkin patches are escaping the coronavirus in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic means some of the Chicago area's pumpkin patches have had to adjust hours, regulations and activities as they head into fall. But pumpkin picking — and other fall fun like apple orchards — can still happen with safety measures and social distancing in place.

Fortunately, the coronavirus has only changed — not completely closed — your favorite pumpkin patch and its offerings this fall. Below is a list of some of our favorite pumpkin patches near Chicago Heights.

Butterprint Farm Pumpkin Patch

  • Address: 24936 S. 80th Ave., Monee, IL.
  • Hours: Open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. closed on weekends.
  • Attractions: rubber duck races, petting zoo, rope making, museum, hayrides and more.
  • Pumpkins: The farm has a pumpkin patch and if schools or groups book field trips to the farm they will be given a free pumpkin and a pumpkin pie for each student.
  • Cost: The cost of admission for children is $10 per person.

Bengtson's

  • Season: Sept. 25 to Nov. 2.
  • Hours of operation: Hours vary. More information is available on Bengston's website.
  • Attractions: Tractor Town, Happy Swing, chicken truck, mega slide, cow coaster, free selfie booth, gemstone and arrow head mining, pony rides, petting zoo, haunted barn, fun barn, pumpkins and more.
  • Pumpkins, produce and more: You can pick the perfect pumpkin, take home some of Bengtson's specialty products, enjoy an apple cider donut and several other delectable treats.
  • Cost: Admission ranges from $13.99 to $25.99, depending on the day and time. See the website for more details. Military (active duty or retired) are admitted free with ID. Pony rides an additional $6.

Kregel's Pumpkin Patch

  • Address: 7705 W. 159th Ave., Lowell, IN 46356.
  • Season: Sept. 26- Oct. 31.
  • Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m.-5 p.m.
  • Attractions: Unlimited rides on the hayride to the pumpkin patch, pumpkin peak slide, barrel train ride, pedal cars, rat rollers, petting zoo and the corn maze and more.
  • Pumpkins, produce and more: The Farm Market has fresh made kettle corn and apple cider donuts if you get hungry and a picnic area for you to eat at. The market also carries honey, hand painted pumpkins, gourds, mums, straw bales, and corn stalks for sale.
  • Cost: Monday-Thursday $8 admission and Friday- Sunday $10 for kids and $8 for adults.
