Coroners IDs Fox Lake Man Found Dead In Burning Home

The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified the man found dead in a burning house in Fox Lake Thursday morning.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified the 56-year-old man found dead inside a Fox Lake home on Thursday morning.

Autopsy results show David Grenell died due to asphyxia due to hanging, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office press release.

The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Fox Lake Police Department responded to the 200 block of Lippincott Lane in Fox Lake at about 7:40 a.m. for a report of a structure fire. When authorities searched the home they found a man in his basement who appeared to have hung himself.

He was brought out of the home where he was pronounced dead.

According to the coroner's office and "based on the scene investigation," his death appears to be self-inflicted.

The cause of the death remains under investigation.
