McHenry Co. Sheriff Warns Of Jury Duty Scam

Authorities said the scammers are using the sheriff's office phone number to inform local residents they have "missed a jury duty summons."

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a phone scam.

Authorities said the scammers are using the sheriff's office phone number — 815-338-2144 — to inform local residents they have "missed a jury duty summons" and that their is a warrant out for their arrest, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Scammers are then asked to press for more personal information, according to the news release.

Police are reminding residents they will never be contacted by a police department via phone claiming they have a warrant or to ask for payment.

"If you receive a call like this, simply hang up the phone," authorities said in a Facebook post.

Police are also asking residents to talk to their elderly friends and family about these scams since scammers are mainly targeting older residents.
