Rapid Rescue By Evanston, Skokie Fire Crews After Rollover Crash

Firefighters from both towns teamed up Thursday night to extricate a woman trapped in a car after a crash at Emerson and McCormick.

EVANSTON, IL — Fire crews sprang into action Thursday after a rollover crash near the border between Evanston and Skokie.

Shortly before 9 p.m., two cars collided at the intersection of Emerson Street and McCormick Boulevard, fire officials said.

The first firefighters to respond showed up at the scene within a minute of the crash and found one car upright, with the other lying on its roof and its driver unable to get out, according to Division Chief Kim Kull.

"One patient was found alert but entrapped, requiring extrication," Kull said in a statement.

Skokie fire crews, who were also dispatched to the crash site, helped Evanston firefighters extricate the woman from the car.

Personnel from both departments worked together and managed to get the injured occupant of her car in just five minutes before taking her to a nearby hospital in stable condition, Kull said..

The two people in the other car turned down a ride in an ambulance, according to the fire department spokesperson.

Police reported that the driver of the car that did not flip over was ticketed for disobeying a traffic control signal.
