JOLIET, IL — Waste Management will pick up early on Thursday and Friday, the company's website says, because of the extreme heat in the forecast. As the heat index breaks 100 degrees, an earlier pick up time will relieve the collectors from the heat, at least a bit.

The pick up time will begin at 6 a.m. instead of 7 a.m. on July 18 and 19. The change applies to trash, recycling and yard waste containers.

The National Weather Service said the heat index, which is how hot it feels when humidity is taken into account, will climb up to 110 degrees for most of the area.
