Tornado Confirmed In Naperville, More Storms Could Hit Chicago Area

ILLINOIS — After a stormy morning that began with a tornado warning for several Chicago-area counties, a tornado was confirmed to have touched down in Naperville, according to several reports.

A tornado touched down near Route 59 and 95th Street, snapping trees and causing minor roof damage, a National Weather Service meteorologist confirmed, according to ABC Chicago. More damage was reported in south Naperville near 103rd Street and east of Route 59.

The City of Naperville said crews were responding to storm damage, with parts of Bluebird Lane, Coneflower Drive, Copperfield Drive, Snowbird Land and Callery Road blocked. On the city's Facebook page, residents said they were not alerted to the storms by tornado sirens.

Another tornado was spotted over Joliet Saturday morning as storms moved through the area, WGN reported.

A tornado warning in Will and Cook counties was allowed to expire at 6:30 a.m. Late Saturday morning, NWS said it was getting reports of nickel- to quarter-sized hail in southern DuPage and northern Will County.

NWS said storms could regenerate Saturday afternoon, causing frequent lightning, large hail, isolated flooding and gusty winds strong enough to down tree branches.

More severe weather could hit the Chicago area Saturday night, as storms developing across southern Minnesota could impact far northern Illinois.

The National Weather Service said severe weather could move through the area between 7 p.m. and midnight, bringing strong to severe thunderstorms with torrential rain that could flood roads and basements.

Damaging winds capable of downing tree limbs and fences are also possible.

According to AccuWeather, storms Saturday night could bring "an isolated tornado."

A flood warning is in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday for Cook and Lake counties. A flood advisory is in effect for DuPage, Kendall and Kane counties until noon Saturday and until 7 a.m. Sunday for Will County.

More potential for storms is also in the forecast for Sunday, with a high of 90 degrees, before the weather clears up Monday and cools down to 74 to 81 degrees.
